About the Owner

Utilizing old-world craftsmanship and technique to meet the demands of modern musicians, Joe Smith offers a renewed perspective within the Piano Servicing community. As a life-long musician turned piano tuner and technician, Joe is able to find harmony between the function and musical demands of an instrument.

Joe Smith earned a Bachelors degree in Music from the University of Iowa, where he studied trumpet with Dr. Amy Schendel. Joe studied aural piano tuning with Randy Karasik in Denver, and has apprenticed in piano service, regulation, and player piano service with Jere DeBacker. Joe Smith has been an Associate Member of the Piano Technicians Guild (PTG).

In addition to piano service, Joe Smith maintains a busy schedule as a touring musician. Joe is the bandleader, trumpet player, and manager for Joe Smith & The Spicy Pickles, a small group that plays 30’s and 40’s swing, and rhythm and blues music. The band regularly tours the country playing festivals, clubs, and swing dances.

When Joe isn’t working he enjoys spending time with his wife Addie, and two Sighthounds Lord Gherkin & Winston. Joe loves to cook and travel in his free time. Joe is an avid motorcycle enthusiast, riding and working on his Harley Ultra Classic.
